DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Some places of worship, like the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, again require parishioners to wear face coverings in accordance with LA County’s latest mask term.
The warrant requires all county residents to wear masks indoors, regardless of their immunization status, and Sunday morning mass attendees were among the first people in the county to cover their faces after the deployment of the warrant at 11:59 p.m. Saturday.

“We thought we were going back to normal and now we’re not so normal anymore. So we’ll just deal with it and keep going, ”said Mike Psomas, a parishioner, outside the cathedral on Sunday morning.
Guy Estacio, another parishioner, said she thought the mask inside was a good thing, so people were protected.
The county’s latest requirement comes after nearly a month of being able to skip masks during domestic services.
“Probably half of the people were still wearing the masks,” Psomas said, “but I didn’t, so this is the first time I’ve worn a mask again.

Fred Wimberley said he thinks the mask mandate is a good protection strategy until experts can get to the bottom of the new, more contagious Delta variant, widely believed to be the reason so many people don’t. vaccinees contract the virus.
Psomas and others, however, said they were disappointed with the policy change.
” I am very surprised. I don’t really understand why we are doing this, but this is what they tell us we have to do and if this is what we have to do, then this is what we will do, ”Psomas said.
Some LA County churches have already defied mask orders. Grace Community Church in Sun Valley fought health guidelines in court last summer, finally getting help from a Supreme Court ruling that overturned the mask requirement for indoor services.
It is possible that some places of worship will reject the new mask mandate and the application of the new requirement will likely create new problems.
