The Principle of the Catholic Church: Sack Sister Lucy, Back Mgr Franco!

The crime of which Bishop Franco Mulakkal is accused is a serious and heinous crime. He raped and sodomized a nun 13 times over a two-year period.

The nun petitioned leaders of the Catholic Church for justice and relief from her continued sexual and mental torture. No one in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in India and the Vatican heeded his calls for justice.

In June 2017, the religious victim met the Rev. Joseph Thadathil – the parish priest of the Kuravilangad church and also Bishop Joseph Kallarangatt the bishop of the diocese of Palai. She explained to them the sexual exploitation she suffered from Bishop Franco from 2014 to 2016 and her torture continues through various means of intimidation because she had the courage to resist his sexual advances.

Under the direction of Mgr Kallarangatt and Mgr Vadakkel, bishop of the diocese of Ujjain; she then handed over a letter to Cardinal Mar George Alencherry – head of the Syro-Malabar Church through Bishop Vadakkel, on 07.11.2017.

She had also given the same letter of complaint to Bishop Vadakkel explaining his mental agony and suffering, and that of the other Missionary Sisters of Jesus under Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

On 23.11.2017, she personally met Cardinal Mar George Alencherry and told him everything she had experienced from Bishop Franco. He heard her complaint but did nothing to resolve her grievance.

And in December 2017, since Bishop Franco was planning to trap her and her companion sister with a police case in Jalandhar; she called the cardinal by telephone to make an appointment with the apostolic nuncio so that she could explain her pain and her misery. But she got no positive response from the Cardinal. He heard again but did nothing.

The nun even asked Bishop Vadakkel before asking Cardinal Alencherry to meet the Vatican representative for India (apostolic nuncio). He assured the nun that he would organize a chance for me to meet the Vatican representative for India when the nuncio came to Kochi in October 2017. But he did not organize a meeting.

Thus, in desperation on January 28, 2018, she wrote a letter directly to the Apostolic Nuncio and in her complaint against Bishop Franco, she clearly mentions her rape, her sexual exploitation, her mental torture and the complaint filed against her in the police. by Jalandhar.

The letter to the Vatican representative was delivered personally by Bishop Kurian Valiayakandathil – the Bishop of Bhagalpur, who is also one of the witnesses interviewed by the Kerala police.

The nun waited five months, but received no response from the office of the Apostolic Nuncio.

Therefore, on 05/14/2018, she decided to send letters to three Church officials in Rome by courier, and following them, she confirmed that they had received them on 05/18/2018.

These letters were sent to the following people:

  1. Bishop Luis Francisco Ladaia Ferrer SJ. Prefetto Congreegazione Dotrina, Della Fede, 00120C’itta Del Vaticano;
  1. Cardinal Ouellet card. Marc PSS, Prefetto Congreegazione Per I Vescovi, 00120 C’itta Del vaticano
  1. Pope Francis 00120 C’itta del vaticano.

Subsequently, she waited over a month but received no response other than the delivery receipt from the DHL courier.

She made another attempt on 22.06.2018 at the Secretary of State. Most. The Rev. Cardinal Pietro Parolin Segretario di statto 00120 Vatican City, which was received there on 25.06.2018.

Seeing all these police cases against her and her family members by the authorities in Jalandhar, she was shocked and frightened.

She then approached and spoke to Archbishop Anil Couto. Metropolitan, Delhi area during her visit to our community in Kuravilangad in May 2018, and later by phone and she and another nun recounted their mental agony and struggle.

But Bishop Couto hijacked the question and did nothing.

He, like the others, gave him the Apostolic Nuncio’s e-mail address and asked him to write to the Representative of the Vatican.

On June 24, 2018, the same evening at 11:45 p.m. She sent an urgent letter to the Vatican representative in India.

Again, she got no response.

Therefore, on 06-28-2018, she lodged a complaint against Bishop Franco Mulakkal with the Kerala police.

20 nuns have left the Missionaries of Jesus congregation in the past five years, when Bishop Franco Mulakkal oversaw the functioning of the congregation.

Kerala police confirmed to GoaChronicle that there were two other complaints of sexual harassment by nuns against Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

The Vatican after 85 days of learning about the ordeal of the nun and the act of rape by Bishop Franco Mulakkal has finally told media it will appoint a one-member investigative committee to investigate the complaint of the nun.

The nun, with the support and encouragement of other nuns in her congregation, decided to fight to protect her basic human rights and her dignity.

She approached the Kerala police and lodged a formal complaint. The authorities registered an FIR and on the basis of their investigation, Bishop Franco Mulakkal was arrested. He became the first bishop of the Catholic Church in India to be arrested for rape and sodomy.

Bishop Franco Mulakkal has been released on bail. The case is continuing in court in Kerala and those supporting the rape survivor put their trust in the Indian justice system when the Vatican failed to protect the nun.

The shamelessness of some Christians was such that they welcomed the rape, accusing Bishop Franco Mulakkal of heroes and the nuns fighting for justice of wicked. They even decorated the head of the Church upon his release from prison on bail as if he had been acquitted of the case of his heinous crime. However, when it comes to the nun who was raped and the nuns who fought for the justice of the raped nun, some people in the Catholic Church decide to form their anger and hatred towards the nuns instead of the rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

Sister Lucy Kalappurakal of the Clarist Franciscan Congregation defended the nun who accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal of rape and sodomy thirteen times. But today, the convent to which she dedicated her life in the service of Christianity ordered her to leave the Clarist Franciscan Congregation because she defied their repeated orders not to participate in any demonstration demanding justice for the raped nun.

He was given seven days to leave the convent. His calls to the Vatican have gone unnoticed. Pope Francis has decided to go deaf, dumb and blind on the issue of nuns fighting a perverse and powerful leader of the Catholic Church in India – Bishop Franco Mulakkal and the Catholic Church as an institution whose only one The objective is to protect the image of the Church and to side with those accused of rape by openly and secretly targeting nuns.

The nun who accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal of rape continues to be a victim and the other nuns who supported her in her fight for justice. In an attempt to derail the investigations, a priest working with the Congregation of Mary Immaculate (CMI) tried to negotiate but ended up making threats and promises to another nun – a witness in the case and a friend of the victim – to try to force them to withdraw the case, according to an audio clip of an alleged telephone conversation between them. CMI priest James Aerthayil is heard threatening the victim’s supporter in the audio clip saying, “Don’t you know that they (Jalandhar Diocese) are ready to do anything?” also heard him tell that the bishop’s diocese is ready to help by buying them 10 acres of land and building a convent there if they are willing to abandon the business. The recording of the priest’s threats and offers to the nun came out in the media following reports on a claim made by the victim’s brother that the diocese of Jalandhar, through someone in Kalady near Kochi, had offered 5 crore rupees and a post of her choice in her congregation so as not to pursue the rape case.

The sister of the nun who accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal of rape also filed a petition with Kerala DGP, Kottayam SP and Kalady Circle Inspector, saying she and her family were receiving death threats and in need of protection. In her complaint letter, the nun’s sister said that Mulakkal’s brothers filed false complaints against her, threatening her son, brother and herself with dire consequences. “Since the bishop is behind bars, we really fear for our lives. One of his collaborators, Thomas Chittuparamban, had threatened to liquidate my son and my brother if anything happened to the bishop. We have learned that some people who are close to him can go to any extent. So we need protection, ”she said in her complaint.

“Save our sisters” action council, Father Vattoly also received a warning letter from the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly Syro-Malabar.

Father Vattoly was one of the avant-garde Catholic priests supporting the nuns of the Congregation of the Missionaries of Jesus. In the letter written by Mar Jacob Manathodath warned Father Vattoly of the consequences and states that if he is unable to give an explanation which is not satisfactory, the Church will have to take disciplinary action against him.

The letter further accuses Father Vattoly of working with some of the groups allegedly plotting against the Church to harm religion and the Church. “Some of your activities would be a denial of Church authority,” the letter expresses. “Disobedience will result in ecclesiastical actions in accordance with Church law,” Manathodath warns in the letter.

“I was told that such actions by a priest would seriously harm the good of the Church in public and cause a scandal among the faithful. Therefore, I hereby strongly prohibit you from organizing and attending Dharna and similar activities, ”says the apostolic administrator in the letter.

Mulakkal is the first bishop of the Catholic Church in India to be arrested on charges of rape, unnatural sex and illegal forcible confinement.

Sister Lucy faces this backlash because of her decision to stand up for the truth and against Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

The message that some senior leaders of the Catholic Church in India and the Vatican send to the world is simple: The Principle of the Catholic Church: Sack Sister Lucy, Back Bishop Franco!
