WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today joined Senators Roger Marshall, MD (R-Kan.), Kirsten Gillibrand (DN.Y.) and 13 colleagues to present a bipartite resolution in support of the designation of June 2021 as âNational Dairy Monthâ. The resolution seeks to recognize the important role dairy products play in healthy diets and the exceptional work of dairy farmers as stewards of the land and livestock.
“Our dairy farmers play a vital role in providing products that help maintain the overall health and well-being of our country”, Grassley said. “I am proud to join my colleagues in supporting this resolution and thanking our dairy farmers for all their hard work in keeping milk on tables and ice cream in local stores.”
The US dairy industry is a key driver of the national food system and supports the people of the United States both nutritionally and economically. According to 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, dairy products have a nutritional makeup that puts them first in maintaining good health and reducing the risk of chronic disease at all stages of life.
This resolution also highlights the economic impact of dairy farmers in the United States and encourages consumers to visit dairy farmers to better understand the production process. The US dairy industry is estimated to have supported 3.3 million jobs and $ 41.6 billion in direct wages to support workers and their families.
