Sergio Porras

The following information was submitted by Sergio Porras, who intends to seek the nomination of the Uvalde County Democratic Party in the primary elections on March 1, 2022.

I, Sergio Porras, proudly announce my intention to run for the post of Uvalde County Commissioner for District 2 in the general election scheduled for November 5, 2022.

I grew up in Uvalde where I attended public school. I attended Southwest Texas Junior College for two years. While pursuing graduate studies, I enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served for four years, including a tour of Vietnam. After my military service, I worked for the State of Texas for 30 years. While working for the Texas Workforce Commission, I was able to help adults with employment opportunities and veteran services.

In May 2002, I retired but continued to serve the public in several capacities, including the Uvalde county assessment district board, uvalde county housing authority and american legion ext. 479. I am currently volunteering with the Auxiliary at Uvalde Memorial Hospital.

In addition to civic businesses, I have also been active in many political campaigns, which has allowed me to see first-hand the process and what it takes to make a difference.

Being active in the community for all these years has given me the opportunity to get to know and relate to the citizens of Uvalde County. I really believe this prepared me for my own campaign. As Uvalde County Commissioner for Ward 2, I wish to continue my service to the public.

I know our basic agricultural economy and the impact it has on the livelihoods of our local citizens. It is crucial to protect our water rights and our need for economic expansion. Economic expansion goes hand in hand with job creation for our community and our county.

Second, I would like to continue the good maintenance of our streets and the sewer needs of our community, especially for the Uvalde estates, which fall under Ward 2. I look forward to working closely with all members. community and civic organizations in Uvalde County to collaborate and develop solutions aimed at the best interest of our community. Finally, my desire is to listen, research and involve the citizens of precinct 2 in the discussion of relevant issues impacting our community, both positive and negative.

I have been married for 49 years with my wife, Zulema. We have two amazing children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren who are all proud members of this community. I am an active member of the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart.

I am engaging in this task and appreciate your consideration, help and support in becoming your next Uvalde County Commissioner for Ward 2.
