Georgette Le Grand Fowler
July 21, 1933 – September 26, 2021
Charlotte, North Carolina – Mrs. Georgette Fowler, 88, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2021. She was born on July 21, 1933 in Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada, daughter of the late Harold and Marie Ann LeGrand, sister of the late Raymond LeGrand, and beloved wife of her late husband, Fred Fowler.
Georgette was a bit of an adventurer when she decided to leave her native Canada and move south on her own at the age of 25. She lived in Columbia, SC, where she met her future husband and the love of her life, Fred Fowler. They were married at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church in Charlotte, North Carolina and lived the rest of their lives in the first and only home they built.
Georgette was an amazing wife and mother. She loved her family above all else. She was “Martha Stewart” long before Martha Stewart. There was no task she wouldn’t try. From being a great cook to sewing beautiful clothes, decorating cakes, and even building a dollhouse from scratch for a school raffle, she’s never seen the things she’s done. ‘she hadn’t acted as an obstacle. Rather, she just dug in and figured out how to get there. In her mid-forties, she obtained an associate’s degree in interior design and later became a licensed insurance agent for American General Life Insurance Company. She delivered friendship platters to the elderly for many years and enjoyed playing golf several times a week. She was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and even “broke the barrier” and became the first female opener of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Georgette was the consummate host, who loved to throw a big Christmas party. She was loved by many and will be sadly missed.
Although dementia robbed her of her beautiful mind and spirit, you could still see her warm smile and feel her love for you when you were in her presence. She is now free from the darkness of dementia and her family is relieved that she is now at peace.
She is survived by her son, Chris Fowler and his wife, Alison; her daughter, Karen Crews and her husband, Mark; beloved grandchildren, Cameron and Nick Crews; as well as his stepson Mark Fowler and his wife Barbara. She is also survived by her sister, Lorraine Courchesne, and her sisters-in-law, Sylvia Graham and Joy Martin; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition, she is survived by her best friend of 60 years, Joann Jones, who was a shining example of love and friendship until the end.
A Christian funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Rd., Charlotte. The family will welcome guests from 1 p.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be private.
