God Squad Kicks Off Season 12 Faith and Politics Conversation

The divine squad in the village square will be back on Friday October 29 at noon via Zoom for season 12 of civil conversations and respectful disagreements exploring hot topics around faith and politics “for people of faith, or no faith at all. (because talking about politics wasn’t difficult enough). “

The God Squad explores what happens when people of goodwill who might disagree cross each other’s thresholds and engage in open and honest dialogue on difficult issues in a respectful and empathetic manner .

We’ll kick off the 2021-22 season on October 29 with a bit of diversion from regular programming to honor the spiritual legacy of beloved FSU football coach Bobby Bowden, who has often told his players they should have three priorities: faith, family and football – in that order.

The program will feature a number of former FSU Bowden football players telling memorable stories about their legendary coach and the values that have shaped his life. Audiences will enjoy many poignant pigskin stories and (no doubt) some sacred humor as we remember “a man after the heart of God”.

God Squad regular dad Tim Holeda of St. Thomas More Co-Cathedral will be moderating this discussion with several former football players under the direction of Coach Bowden: Charlie Ward (1993 Heisman College Football Trophy winner and Davey O’Brian Award winner), Leon County Commissioner Nick Maddox. (back on the 1999 National Championship team), Dan Campbell (offensive guard on the 1993 National Championship team) and Ryan Sprague (tight end on the 1999 National Championship team).

The God Squad series is provided free to the community, although a reservation is required. The series will continue with another digital program on December 10 (“Exhausted by politics? A spiritual framework to move forward”), followed by in-person programs that will resume on January 28, 2022.

The option to purchase lunch at in-person meetings will resume in the New Year. For more information on God Squad or to reserve your seat, visit tlh.villagesquare.us.

God Squad regulars include Father Tim Holeda of St. Thomas More Co-Cathedral, Reverend Betsy Ouellette-Zierden, formerly of Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, Dr. Gary Shultz of First Baptist Church, Rabbi Michael Shields of Israel Tallahassee Temple, Pastor Joseph Davis Jr of Truth Gatherers Community Church and Dr Dan Leshem of Hillel FSU.
